۞ The Clay ۞⇨

1 Proclaim in the name of thy Lord who formed all.

2 He formed man from clay.

3 Behold, thy Lord is Most Noble.

4 He taught by the stylus.

5 Yea, He taught man that which he knew not.

6 But verily, man doth wax proud.

7 That when he beholdeth Him, he deemeth himself self-sufficient.

8 Truly return unto thy Lord!

9 Hast thou seen him that forbiddeth—

10 A servant when he prayeth?

11 Hast thou seen if he is on the path—

12 Or enjoins reverence?

13 Hast thou seen if he lieth and turneth away?

14 Knoweth he not that God seeth?

15 Nay! If he desist not, we shall seize him by his head.

16 A deceitful, sinful head.

17 Let him call out; summon him.

18 We shall summon the angels of death.

19 Heed him not, but prostrate thyself and draw near.
